To Choose or Not to Choose
Nothing feels quite as satisfying as the ability to choose. We allow ourselves to have a set of expectations for ourselves. This is great. When we feel we have made an incorrect choice perhaps we have wandered away from this expectation. This is essentially who we believe ourselves to be. Any challenge to identity is difficult.
This guideline for the way we makes choices on a daily basis is powerful. Are you asking yourself what this 'identity' looks like for you?
Allow yourself to sit down and make a list.
Who are you? What makes you feel completely comfortable, and essentially you? This can be an empowering experience. For my own identity processing I can say that some pieces are always present:
I am a woman. I am a sister. I am a daughter. I am a friend. I am a warrior for health. I am a musician. I am truthful. I am kind. I am thoughtful. I am human.
The list can go on and on. For some times this list may encompass anxieties or fears. This list may take on inconsistencies or paradoxical thought; however, you can decide. You can choose your list of positive attributes that make you wonderfully, and essentially you - every single day.
This is just one way we can live in a way that is true to ourselves. In this way if we are making decisions that rail against our essential identity we know how to get back to who we are at our core.
